First off bed bugs are not equipped to fly.
Can bed bugs fly. It may seem as though bed bugs fly since they can travel so quickly. They do have front wings but they are vestigial meaning they have lost their function over time. Bed bugs crawl on six legs and they do not have wings. Because of their sudden appearance some people have asked do bed bugs fly thankfully no bed bugs cannot fly.
Research shows that no species of bed bugs have wings. The front wings on today s bed bugs are reduced to small jointed pads which aren t capable of anything more than a slight wiggle while the bed bugs move or feed. Bed bugs are stubby little wingless oval shaped bugs. If you have encountered bed bugs that fly chances are high that the insect has been misidentified and it s actually some other type of bug.
Thankfully they can not fly across the room and land on your bed. The short answer is no they do not fly. There are comparable species out there. The truth is they don t have wings so they can t fly.
The bat bug swallow bug lice and carpet beetles are all similar species to the bed bug but just like them they don t have wings either. If you think you see something flying around and it resembles some pictures of bed bugs you might have seen chances are it s a stink bug. They don t even jump. Because of this the only way they can fly is on an airplane just like us.
Bed bugs cannot fly. However any rapid transportation of bed bugs can be attributed to human activity. They get from place to place simply by crawling.
