Is it ok to burn wood with termites. If however you notice termites in older wood most likely you have a problem with termites that extends beyond your firewood. It can be tempting to get rid of termites once and for all by burning the termite infested wood but this can be dangerous for you and anyone else involved in the burning. Insects in wood include borers termites and beetles among other species. The termites fungi and other critters have taken up most of the heat.
As painful as it might sound it s not suggested to burn firewood which has been clearly infested with termites because by bringing it inside your home even for a moment while you load up your fireplace wood stove or a furnace you pose a risk to infest it too. It is ok to burn termite damaged wood but if your wood has rotted it may not be worth the effort unless it is totally dry. Either throw out termite infested firewood or burn it as you would any other piece. Termites do not live in wood.
The termites won t leave the wood and infest your home once inside. Queen termite starts laying thousands of eggs and would let the colony grow. If however you find a stray termite near your fireplace don t panic. Maintaining a controlled fire can be a very difficult task that when not executed safely could put people in danger and could cause a fire that spreads to unwanted areas.
Never bring more wood into the home than you plan to use immediately. Once the eggs are hatched the nymph make up the colony and take the role of soldier and reproductive termites. They live in the ground.
